Danae Dasyra (b. 1992) was raised in Athens, with family roots on the island of Tinos, known for its marble-sculpting tradition, while Joe Bradford (b. 1993) grew up in the south of England, where he developed an early sensitivity to ceramics. The pair met at Bath Spa University, graduating with First Class Honours in Three-Dimensional Design: Idea, Material, Object, an education grounded in concept-led making and material experimentation that established a shared language around process and narrative.
Following graduation, Joe was nominated for the Perrier-Jouët Arts Salon Prize and exhibited at Decorex, while Danae returned to Bath Spa University as a guest tutor. Both pursued independent careers in contemporary design, collaborating with studios and designers including Bethan Laura Wood and Tom Price, before formally joining forces. In 2023, they relocated to Athens and founded made by Astronauts, drawing on the city’s evolving creative landscape and relative availability of space and time to support deep experimentation and collaborative research.
