Opening January 10th 2009 at Gallery Diet is the first solo exhibition by Abby Manock. The exhibition titled,Counters is a variation of the ongoing artist project, Bag Tag
(abbymanock.com).
Exercising the relationship between drawing, sculpture, installation, performance and video, the artist’s idealized and nostalgic memories of childhood collide with her current feelings of discontent and frustration over political and societal issues. Manock will spend three weeks prior to the exhibition in Miami, arranging her drawings as floor plans and backdrops, and sculpture as props to recreate the set and storyline of her video in the gallery space in an elaborately conceived, five color universe reminiscent of an over sized
walk able board game.
Abby Manock’s work has been included in exhibitions in New York, Washington DC, San Francisco, Miami, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Her performance work has been showcased by The Deitch Projects Art Parade in NYC, concert festivals in Maine and Vermont, Gallery Diet and most recently at Performagia 2008, in Mexico City. She has lectured at the Art Center South Florida and at Bowdoin College, in Brunswick, Maine. Abby received her MFA from Columbia University in 2007, where she is currently adjunct drawing faculty. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
