Christy Gast to participate in Shandaken/Storm King residency
Earlier this year, The Shandaken Project—a residency program that offers artists and thinkers of all disciplines a place to stay in the Catskills for up to six weeks as they relax and create things—announced that it would be moving 60 miles down the Hudson to the Storm King Art Center. Now, those who get the chance to participate in Shandaken will not only have room and board, a private studio, acres and acres of green space glistening in the summer sun, an escape from the sweaty mess that is New York in the summer—they’ll also have gigantic sculptures by Ursula Von Rydingsvard and Alexander Calder to ponder over.
It’s the first of a two-year partnership, and it’s also the first time Storm King has had a residency program.
“We are very pleased to welcome this fantastic group of cultural producers to the residency; especially because of its diversity,” Shandaken founder Nick Weist said in a statement. “That we received many hundreds of applications is a sign that The Shandaken Project at Storm King offers opportunities that are vital and needed in the cultural landscape today.”
Shandaken has always been lovely, and it looks like the new location will only enhance the experience. See the full list of participants below:
