Awol Erizku, Culture Trip’s Must-See Contemporary Art Events during Art Basel Miami
Nina Johnson presents Awol Erizku: I Was Going to Call It Your Name But You Didn’t Let Me – a new series of paintings together with a conceptual sound collage of music and sonic ephemera. The 20 paintings on exhibit convey the same theme: a disembodied, manicured hand holding a rose, with varying contexts and colors. These new works allude to past works by the artist including flowers, and twists on classical art. Sound bites mixed with pop songs infiltrate the visual experience are described as Erizku trafficking the space between sound and sight. A graduate of Cooper Union and holding a MFA from Yale, the 28-year-old artist was named ‘The Art World’s New It Boy’ by Vulture magazine. Erizku curates Instagram art shows and supplies his fans with celebrity-style personal insight blended with glimpses of his artistic genius on Tumblr. The exhibition is on view through January 14th, 2017.
