Christy Gast will show a pair of textile pieces entitled The Sleeping Cowboy and Mary/Steven. Both are made of reconfigured handmade bed quilts, and reference portraits included in her recent book of photography Source, released by [NAME] Publications. Coaxing out the human history of the fabrication and use of these utilitarian textiles, Gast pushes and pulls the flat surface of the objects: cutting, twisting and prodding until new, nearly figurative abstractions emerge.
